Development of Metropolitan areas - 2025

The rapid growth of the population of megacities and the associated enormous economic development is accelerating according to the latest statistics in the relevant literature. Already over 50% of the people live in a city. The world's most growing regions / cities have become huge magnets of global trade. No internationally active company can look beside this development and face the regional upheavals. Global strategies need to be rewritten to regional ones so that local conditions can really be taken into account. The 15 regions with the highest growth and the population by 2025 will be:

Megacities Mio people
Tokio 37
Jakarta 33
Delhi 29
Mumbai 26
Manila 25
Seoul 25
Karachi 24
Shanghai 24
Sao Paolo 22
Beijing 21
Mexico City 21
New York 21
Dhaka 21
Calcutta 20
Karachi 19

In addition, there will be about 20 regions / cities, which will have between 10-20 million inhabitants. The economic potential of these regions will each be between 500-1200 billion USD, which is much more than some of the countries themselves. It can already be predicted today that these regions will be largely autonomous in economic terms and will set entirely new standards in terms of infrastructure, transport, logistics, resources, quality of life, employment, health, environmental protection, political leadership, etc. The megacities will also compete with each other. Therefore, there will be less competition at the state level. Yes, national borders will even become rather insignificant.

Anyone watching the rise of the megacities is torn between wonder and horror. On the one hand, these huge cities are considered the motors of the global economy, as they are a highly efficient hub for goods, people, culture and knowledge. They offer, at least potentially, an unprecedented pool of know-how and technical resources that can bring more prosperity and quality of life to many people.

On the other hand, one can hardly imagine how the unstoppable flow of people in these cities should be tamed and which also produces negative effects.
